- Schedule your semi-annual cleanings while you’re thinking about it
The American Dental Association recommends that patients complete professional cleanings every six months or so. When life gets busy, it’s so easy to forget about these appointments and fall behind. That’s why we strongly encourage patients to get their appointments on the books at the beginning of the year.
- Switch out your dental hygiene tools
As oral hygiene tools age, they tend to become less effective, and they can even start to harbor harmful bacteria. Generally speaking, we should be switching out our toothbrushes, for example, every three months. Kick off the new year with fresh dental tools to get the most out of your daily routine.
- Resolve to drink water
Drinking water is absolutely one of the best things that you can do for your oral health. First of all, water does not have any of the harmful sugars or acids that sodas and fruit juices have. Additionally, whenever you drink water, you prompt your body to produce saliva; saliva is one of your body’s natural ways of fighting bacteria and re-mineralizing enamel. If you have trouble consuming enough water, you might want to set timers throughout the day to remind you. Or, you could fill a jug with all of your water for the day, and use it to refill your smaller water bottle as you go.
