Q: How often do I need to wear my Invisalign aligners?

A: In order to effective move your teeth, it is critically important that you wear your aligners for as many hours of the day as possible. You will need to take out your aligners when you eat, drink something other than water, and clean your smile. In general, you should aim to wear your aligners for 23 hours a day—the more you wear them the better your treatment outcome!

Q: What does it feel like to wear Invisalign aligners?
A: During the course of Invisalign treatment, you will actually wear a series of aligners. Every two to three weeks you will get a new aligner, which moves your teeth a little more. Some people experience a feeling of tightness and dental sensitivity right after they start wearing a new aligner, but this feeling dissipates quickly. It may also take some time for you to get used to speaking and enunciating with your aligners in place. Otherwise, Invisalign aligners are quite comfortable and intuitive; because they are made of smooth plastic resin, they do not irritate the wearer’s oral tissues as metal brackets and wires do.

As always, our Lincoln Park Invisalign dentists are here to answer any additional questions that you may have, and to help you make the best decisions for the health and appearance of your smile.
