Tooth loss is one of the most devastating dental issues that can affect a person. In order to minimize the amount of damage that results from tooth loss, it is critical that dental patients seek effective treatment from a dentist as soon as possible.

When you meet your dentist, you will probably find that there are a number of different restorative dental treatments from which you can choose. Two of these treatment options are traditional dental implants and mini dental implants.

Today our Lincoln Park dental implant dentists are going to be telling you even more about these exciting treatments.

Here is what full-sized and mini dental implants have in common:

· They both have titanium roots that extend into the patient’s jawbone

· Both can be capped with natural-looking dental restorations to create stand-alone replacement teeth

· The titanium roots of these implants will osseointegrate (bond with) the patient’s natural bone tissue

· Both stay in place permanently, and are not removable

The primary differences between full-sized and mini dental implants has to do with (you guessed it!) the size of the implant root. Mini implant roots are thinner (and thus less traumatic for the bone tissue upon insertion) than conventional implant roots.

While full-sized implant roots are generally capped with dental crowns, and used to create stand-alone replacement teeth, mini implant roots are usually used to hold other dental prosthetics—like dentures in place. It only takes a few mini implants (usually 4 or 5) to hold a full denture permanently in place.

The type of replacement tooth that is right for you will depend on a number of factors: your current oral health, budget, timeline, desired aesthetic result, and more. Our Lincoln Park dental implant dentists are here to help you make the perfect decision for your unique smile, so give us a call!
